THE MEETING PLACE
This project, created as part of a university subject called "Vision 2022", aimed to explore the intersection between identity design and culture, with a focus on the deep connections between art, community, and heritage. For the project, we were tasked with selecting an artist and creating a brand identity as though they were hosting an exhibition in Melbourne. I chose the Papunya Tula Artists group, which represents around 120 artists from the Western Australian Desert. Their unique painting style is deeply rooted in traditional body and sand painting, which is closely associated with the ceremony. The group’s mission is to promote individual artists, foster economic development in their communities, and preserve a rich cultural heritage.

For my design, I drew inspiration from one of the Papunya Tula Artists' artworks that encapsulated the group's vision of community and togetherness. The circular elements in the artwork symbolised people gathering and meeting, reflecting the unity, connection, and shared cultural expression at the heart of the Papunya Tula community.
To reflect this, the exhibition was named "The Meeting Place," emphasising the concept of unification. The fold of the invitation symbolised people coming together, folding to become one, mirroring the artists' collective vision. I incorporated natural textures from the Western Australian desert, such as earthy tones and organic patterns, to further connect the design with the region and the artists’ surroundings. This approach not only honoured the group's cultural heritage but also created a tangible link between their traditional practices and the modern exhibition experience. The combination of these elements helped to create a meaningful and immersive visual identity that conveyed the essence of the Papunya Tula Artists’ vision and the spirit of the exhibition.
